Until now, walking a site has meant juggling devices to take photos and thumb-typed notes, then taking an hour or more to manually craft a report.
Bex Walks lets you simply take photos and dictate what you see in natural language, all in the app. Then Bex's AI transcribes the audio and creates a professional report, ready for sharing and entry into construction management systems such as Procore.
Who should take a walk?
- Subcontractors: Use "proof-of-work" mode and Bex will catalog all the fixtures and other important items seen in photos. No need to hunt through your camera roll to prove that damage happened after you did your job. Bex gives you a permanent record that's easy to search.
- GCs: Your own quality and safety walks become 2–3 times faster. Pair with Bex Punch to go seamlessly from walk to Procore or another CMS.
- Architects & Consultants: Streamline the process for creating field observation reports. Bex can be customized to make reports like you do today, but with far less clerical effort.
- Owners: Proof-of-work mode lets you easily record the state of construction at any time, for warranty and other purposes.
Capturing site conditions shouldn't be painful
Quality and safety walks are some of the highest-leverage work your field staff does—and the most awkward to actually perform. A walker thumb-types observations into a phone (or fights a stylus), puts the keyboard down to switch into camera mode, takes a photo, switches back, hunts for their place in the notes, and resumes. Hands juggle. Gloves come off. Important detail gets shortened to whatever fits before the next task pulls the walker away.
Safety walks have a second, hidden cost. Tying each observation to the right OSHA reference—part, subpart, paragraph—takes time and a code book, so in practice almost nobody does it. Findings get filed with vague language like "fall hazard near egress", which closes the immediate loop but makes it nearly impossible to spot trends across projects: which violations recur, which subs need targeted training, which conditions cluster on which kinds of work.
What Bex Walks does
Bex Walks is the iPhone and iPad app your field staff actually wants to use. They open it on the job site and just talk, describing each observation in their own words while snapping photos. GPS coordinates are automatically captured for pin-drop use, and it's easy to draw arrows and boxes on photos. The app works offline—no worries on remote sites.
When the user submits the walk, Bex takes over server-side: it transcribes the audio with AI tuned to construction vocabulary (even customizable with your terminology preferences), then summarizes each observation, getting rid of "umms" and "ahhs" and distractions. In short, it professionalizes each observation. Users get a detailed, easy-to-read observation report ready to review and send to Procore or another construction management system.
For walks in "safety mode", every photo is also analyzed for safety violations, even ones the user might not have caught. Bex classifies violations instantly using OSHA part and subpart, and can even use your custom rules.
"Proof-Of-Work" mode
For subcontractors who need photos that document exactly what your work looked like when you finished, Bex deletes the pain of managing photos and finding them later on. (This applies equally to owners documenting conditions for warranty purposes.)
When a job is done, you take photos on the Walks app, and use plain English to describe where you are and what you're documenting. (The app automatically captures GPS coordinates too.)
But making the data capture brain-dead easy is only half the value of Bex Walks. Later on when you have to pull up evidence that your crew did their job without damaging the sinks or mirrors or signage or whatever, you need to quickly filter hundreds of photos to locate the needle in the haystack. But how can you do that without spending hours manually cataloging objects in those photos?
The answer is Bex. Its AI scrutinizes every photo, indexing each item that's important—and nothing that isn't. For instance, if you're a Division 10 subcontractor, you probably don't want Division 06 framing items clogging the catalog Bex builds for you. We can configure Bex to pay attention to the items that have meaning for your business.
You're left with a searchable, filterable inventory that lets you pull up all the signage from "Bellview" lightning-fast. This index can be as simple as a spreadsheet saved with your photo files to a SharePoint directory, or you can use Bex's powerful built-in file organizer, shown here.
